Good morning K.R. Kernspecht
Grandmaster Prof. Dr. sc. Keith R. Kernspecht

A life dedicated to martial arts
Keith Ronald Kernspecht was one of the most influential figures in the history of martial arts in Europe.
Founder of the EWTO (Europäische WingTsun Organisation) and owner of schools from 1960 to 2025, he transformed WingTsun from an unknown discipline into a benchmark system in the West.
From childhood, he developed a strong passion for martial arts and physical development. He studied and practiced numerous styles, achieving ranks and recognition in disciplines such as:
- Freestyle Wrestling
- Judo (2nd Dan)
- Jiu-Jitsu
- Karate Shotokan and Wado-ryu (3rd Dan)
- Kempo (2nd Dan)
- Kobudo, Taekwondo, Aikido
- Escrima (Filipino stick and knife)
In 1967 he founded the Budo Zirkel, the first German club dedicated to true Chinese kung fu. In the 70s he came into contact with Wing Chun, a discipline that changed his life and consecrated him as the "Father of WingTsun in Europe."
The meeting with Leung Ting and the birth of the EWTO
- 1975: on the advice of his master Joseph Cheng, he invited Grandmaster Leung Ting, the foremost exponent of WingTsun, to Germany.
- 1976: the EWTO was founded, with Kernspecht as chief instructor for Europe and official representative of the Ving Tsun Athletic Association of Hong Kong.
Thanks to his tireless work:
- The EWTO grew to approximately 2000 schools in German-speaking countries and hundreds more in Europe.
- In 2000 he received the 10th Grandmaster degree from Leung Ting, confirmed without restrictions in 2012.
Personal philosophy
His motto was:
"My WingTsun: effortless self-defense and leaving nothing to chance."
The origin of his motivation:
"A friend of mine got beaten up at school and I didn't intervene. Perhaps that was the turning point. I started with Asian martial arts and, after trying various styles, I looked for Chinese systems. (...) With patience, I managed to attend Joseph Cheng's lessons. It was he who directed me to Leung Ting."
Innovator in teaching
- 1982: he founded the WingTsun Akademie in Langenzell Castle (Heidelberg).
- He created the first professional program for WingTsun instructors in Europe, in collaboration with Leung Ting.
- This training model is still the reference point for over 1000 EWTO schools today.
Magic Hands – The culmination of his journey
In recent years he developed Magic Hands, defined as the highest expression of WingTsun:
"63 years of excellence in martial arts: Magic Hands is a unique and independent self-defense system, as well as a valuable complement for every martial arts style and combat sport."
Magic Hands represents the synthesis of his life of experience, research, and innovation.
Academic commitment
Determined to give scientific dignity to martial arts, he collaborated with several universities:
- 1996 – Visiting Professor of Sports Science at the National Sports Academy in Sofia
- 1999 – First Doctor Honoris Causa for martial arts in the world (University of Plovdiv)
- 2004 – Launch of the first university course in specialized sports pedagogy in WingTsun
- 2006 – Appointed Professor h.c. by the Sofia Academy
- 2009 – Title of Great Doctor (German habilitation)
- 2011 – Appointed Professor Emeritus by Paisij Hilendarski University
